Yoshinoya HD Announces the dismissal of the managing director of inappropriate remarks that despise women
Yoshinoya Holdings, a major beef bowl chain, announced that
it had dismissed the managing director of a subsidiary who made extremely
inappropriate statements that looked down on women at an extraordinary board
meeting on the 18th of April.
According to the announcement, the person who was dismissed
was an executive officer of Yoshinoya Holdings, Masaaki Ito, Managing Director
of the subsidiary of Yoshinoya.
It was discovered after posting on SNS, and criticisms on the
Internet, and this remark had an impact on business operations, such as the
sudden cancellation of the new product launch scheduled on the 19th of
April 2022.
The company held an extraordinary board meeting on the 18th
and dismissed it as "there were extremely unacceptable words and deeds in
terms of duties from the perspective of human rights and gender issues."
Yoshinoya Holdings commented, "We take this situation
very seriously and will hold training in-house to ensure thorough compliance.
We deeply apologize."
After this incident, Yoshinoya’s stock fell as much as 4.3%
in morning trading in Tokyo on Tuesday, the biggest intraday decline since
October 2020. The stock had been up 5.3% this year before the remarks became
public.
