Yoshiko Mori: The Olympics 'might' be held in spring

On Saturday, the President of the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics organizing committee, Yoshiko Mori, hinted that the Tokyo games might be held next spring. The Summer Olympics and Paralympics have been postponed for roughly a year due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic outbreak sweeping the world.

Speaking to the press, Mori hoped to provide further details of a new timetable for the Tokyo Games no later than this week. A new task force had been set up to revise the schedule of the postponed Olympics.

Mori promised that there will be no drastic change from the 2020 schedule. The cost will be jointly provided by the local organizers and the IOC.

As the game is intended for the summer season, Mori hinted that the Olympics might take place between June and September. There has been various advice for Mori to hold the Olympics in a more hospitable month such as October like the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

Mori said that the logistics might add another issue for the Olympics should it be held in Spring, while summer might give more time for the volunteers and the messy qualifying events.

Revealed on Thursday, the International Olympics Committee (IOC) will decide the rescheduled date for the Japanese Olympics in three weeks.
