Yasonna should resign from his ministerial seat: Expert

More and more political observers in Indonesia urged the Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna Laoly, to resign from his position. The demand resounds stronger due to the finding that there were discrepancies in data of immigration management and information system (SIMKIM) central database from 23 December 2019 to 10 January 2020.

From the discrepancies, there were 120,661 data of illegal immigrants entering Indonesia through Terminal 2F at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, including the Harun Masiku, a graft fugitive/politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).

Harun’s arrival remained anonymous since the data at Terminal 2F was not sent to the local server. It was due to the configuration mistake of Uniform Resource Locator (URL) when upgrading SIMKIM v.1 to SIMKIM v.2 on 23 December 2019.

Thus, the finding made Yasonna, also a PDI-P senior official, look unprofessional and reckless to bear his duty as a Minister. The political observers also pointed out that Yasonna is caught between a conflict of interest between state affairs and PDI-P’s interest.

Moreover, Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) criticized Yasonna’s discrepant testimony about Masiku that halted Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). ICW said that the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), should have warned Yasonna.
