Yamanashi governor looks to draw up Mt Fuji railway plan in 2 years

KOFU, Yamanashi - The governor is planning to build a railway to connect the bottom of Mt Fuji to the fifth station. Gov. Kotaro Nagasaki plans to build the railway in 2 years.

The team of the project is expected to be created in June, consisting of experts. In June, they will plan the first step of the project which is the route as well as the impact to the economy and environment. The railway has been planned for a long time, but never had the chance to realize it due to the concern of the environment. It is mostly because the railway itself is going to be built in a 3,776 meter high mountain. Right now, visitors can only go up to the fifth station by bus and private car.

Nagasaki stated that he has pledged to build the railway in January, during his campaign. The pledge was supported by his supported, so he said he has to keep his promise. Hence, he is hoping to build the railway in 2 years, as planned.

Nagasaki also attended the meeting where he discussed about the railway plan. Masanori Aoyagi, the former head of cultural Affairs Agency, and many others who attended the meeting supported the idea as well. They said it will be convenient if the volcanic mountain erupt, because it will be easier to do the evacuation. 

It is also said that the project will help the environment and increase tourists during winter. Up until now, a big amount of carbon dioxide emissions has been released from cars visiting the site. With the existence of railway, the carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced.
