XL Axiata's response to 5G network development

One of the largest telecom operators in Indonesia, XL Axiata, is waiting for the Indonesian government to give the frequency before trying out the 5G network in the ASEAN country. Once the frequency is out, XL Axiata will begin testing for the successor of the 4G network.

XL Axiata's corporate communication general manager, Tri Wahyuningsih, confirmed the news. Tri asserted that the frequency from the Indonesian government is essential for the establishment of the network. Meanwhile, XL Axiata had done 5G network trials for three years: in 2017, 2018, and the latest was in August 2019.

The commercial GTM general manager of XL Axiata, Rahmadi Mulyohartono, said that the 5G network will bring efficiency in terms of data transfer speed. Same spectrum, only faster than its predecessor.

Besides the development of the 5G network, Rahmadi also mentioned how 5G might change the way games played. The 4G network offers low latency which was a game-changer. Entering the 5G network era, Rahmadi said that the 5G network will change the gaming experience and reform the basic foundation of gaming itself.

He even predicted the creation of “cloud gaming” where everything is stored virtually. If 4G has helped mobile games to bloom, the 5G network could do more than just that, reaching out to the possibility of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), he said.

XL keeps the latency below 100 milliseconds, even 70 milliseconds for its 4.5G network to ensure a comfortable gaming experience. The 5G network, whose latency will be kept at only 1 millisecond, is hailed to be the next incredible thing in gaming history, aside from other aspects.
