Wow! Consumer Confidence Index in Indonesia was the highest since 201

Economy in Indonesia has a good news because optimism of consumers in Indonesia is currently getting better. This is evidenced by value of Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) in May 2019 which rose 0.1 points from previous month to 128.2. Amazingly, this is the highest CCI value since last January 2012.

Bank Indonesia (BI) stated that consumer optimism was driven by an increase in current index of economic conditions. Increase in this index mostly occurred in consumer perceptions of job availability and the purchase of durable goods.

Index of durable goods purchases rose 1.6 points to 115.2 in May. This increase mostly occurred in electronic equipment, communications, and household furniture.

BI also said that the results of this survey also indicate that price pressures in next 6 months (November 2019) are expected to increase. This because  influence of consumer demand for goods and services is expected to increase towards the end of the year.

For information, CCI is result of a consumer survey conducted by Bank Indonesia (BI) and represents consumer optimism regarding the economic condition of Indonesia.

Nevertheless, BI noted that increase in consumer optimism wasn’t followed by index of economic expectations. Because, in May, index of economic expectations fell 1.9 points from previous month.

This decrease was due to reduced consumer expectations of income and business activities within next six months. Despite the downturn, BI views the expectations of Indonesian consumers on condition of domestic economy in the near future to remain strong.
