World’s Largest Starbucks to Open Soon in Chicago

The 43,000 square feet Starbucks Reserve Roastery is scheduled to open on November 15, at 10 a.m, in Chicago, U.S. The four-story building is going to be the largest Starbucks store in the world, beating the 32,000 square feet Tokyo’s Starbucks Reserve Roastery. The Chicago’s Starbucks Reserve Roastery will be located on the city’s Magnificent Mile at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Erie Street. It plans to employ 200 people and has many special features as tourist attractions.

The special things from the largest Roastery includes specialty coffees and teas, on-premise roasters and massive coffee casks with freshly roasted beans inside, bars with craft cocktails, and fancier food than other Starbucks stores. Starbucks had promised in 2017 that the Chicago’s Roastery will be a fully sensorial coffee environment dedicated to roasting and brewing Starbucks' coffees from around the world. The new Roastery will also use Princi, the company's artisan bakery concept.

Currently, Starbucks has six Roasteries around the world, including in New York, Milan, and Shanghai. The company used to have ambition for 1,000 reserve bars and more Roasteries. However, Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson said that the company doesn’t have definite plans to build additional Roasteries. Johnson also said the company is very pleased with how the existing Roasteries perform. Its effort to open more restaurants, improving its technology, developing new products, and expanding its rewards program are paying off. As a result, Starbucks sales grew 6% globally in the third quarter.
