Wikipedia Co-Founder Criticized Facebook and Twitter

Lawrence Mark Sanger (or commonly known as Larry Sanger) is a co-founder of Wikipedia. Together with Jimmy Wales, he launched Wikipedia back in 2001. Fast forward to 18 years later, Sanger criticized Facebook and Twitter, some of the biggest social media platforms to date.

On July 4, Sanger wrote a post on his personal website about the giant social media platforms. He opened the post with his opinion that the internet evolution is terrifying. He continued Facebook and Twitter are violating the users' privacy as they can access everything from the users' account. Hence, Sanger thinks that social media platforms need to be changed to individual independent network.

Sanger then took further action to this. He created a petition about his thought that social media platforms need to be changed. Surprisingly, 2,400 people are agree with him and signed the petition. As of now, Sanger has not revealed his next step after getting thousands of signs.

Nonetheless, this is not the first time social media platforms are facing criticism. Previously, the founder of World Wide Web Tim Berners-Lee published his opinion about the matter as well. He wrote that giant social media platforms need to take a further step to protect their users' personal data.

Surprisingly, this matter is also discussed by the co-founder of Facebook. Chris Hughes published his opinion on the New York Times, where he thinks that Facebook needs to be broken up. He hopes the WhatsApp and Instagram acquisitions would be banned by the US Federal Trade Commission and the justice department.
