WIKA TO PRODUCE 50,000 ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLES THIS YEAR

State-owned construction company PT Wijaya Karya (Wika), through PT Gesits Technologies Indo (GTI), plans to produce 50,000 electric motorcycles this year.

Wika president director Tumiyana said in Jakarta on Monday that the electric motorcycle model Gesits, which stands for Garansindo Electric Scooter ITS, would be launched in September.

“Next year, we will produce around 100,000 to 150,000 units,” he said as quoted by kompas.com, adding that the production target would continuously increase in the following years.

The Gesits is an automatic scooter designed with a 5 kilowatt electric motor that can run for 80 to 100 kilometers (km) on one charge.  The charging time is between 1.5 and three hours.

In 2016, Gesits passed a 1,200 km test from Jakarta to Bali with a number of revisions held in 2017.

The motorcycles, produced with 89 percent local materials, are being manufactured at an assembly factory in Cileungsi, Bogor, West Java.

Previously, GTI CEO Harun Sjech said that for the time being, the target market was companies and individuals who had already made orders.
