Water supply cut off at Tokyo's Haneda Airport

TOKYO -- The water supply at Haneda Airport's domestic passenger terminals has been cut off since the morning of Nov. 6, according to the terminal building operator.
There is no water available at restaurants or in the washrooms in terminals 1 and 2, according to operator Japan Airport Terminal Co. Water is still flowing at the International Terminal. The water cutoff has not affected passenger boarding or aircraft operations, according to the Haneda Airport office of the East Japan Civil Aviation Bureau.

A company which maintains the terminal's water supply told Japan Airport Terminal Co. at around 9:30 a.m. of Nov. 6 that it would halt the water supply at the two domestic terminals for an emergency inspection.

A 44-year-old man operating a soba noodle restaurant in Terminal 1 said, "The water came out as usual at 7 a.m. when I opened the restaurant, but the pressure began to weaken at around 9:30 and eventually stopped all together. Just at the moment I was wondering what was wrong, the water company contacted me to ask that I close the restaurant because the water was cut off." He closed the restaurant just before 10 a.m.

"It's like the middle of the night here, with all the restaurants and shops closed. The water cutoff is a matter of life and death for soba restaurants, so I want to find out what's going on as soon as possible," the owner said.
