Washington to Beijing: Trade Talks Continue

WASHINGTON - Trade talks between vice-premier Liu He and United States did not go as planned. Since yesterday Trump had raised the tariff more than double from 10% to 25% on all untaxed Chinese goods, the Chinese did not think that any negotiation between the 2 countries is going to be effective. The tariff raise covers almost all products from Chinese gradually

In spite of the new tariff, the trade talks between China and US will still continue in the Trade War saga. In other words, the trade war between the two countries is not going to conclude yet.

Based on the accusation that the Chinese had backtracked from their commitment, Trump decided to pull up the tariff until 25%, more than double from its predecessor (9/5). About $200 billion worth of Chinese goods will be slapped on by the new tariff. This way, Trump claimed that it will save the US and that the country will win the trade war.

Aftemath, Robert Lighthizer and Steven Mnuchin had a dinner with Liu He, continuing the trade talk, and for another talk on Friday Liu He described the talks as somehow “productive”. Liu He highlighted that United States should be more “reasonable” in terms of trading, by obliterating the tariff and keep the standard of their truce by referring to the figure agreed in Argentina in 2018.

According to Liu, China and US will never settle this war because Trump keeps on taking what is good for Uncle Sam, but he does not share the same goodness with China.

Regarding the tariff raise and China’s stock markets, Liu He reassured that China is not afraid and they still have something in their sleeves for US.
