Vietnam Beats Indonesia

JAKARTA - The value of Indonesia's tuna exports to the United States in 2017 was taken over by Vietnam for the first time in 5 years.

Data from the Indonesian Tuna Association (Astuin) shows that the volume of Indonesian tuna exports to the US is actually always below the performance of Vietnam, at least in the last 5 years. However, the value of Indonesia is superior throughout 2013 - 2016.

Conditions reversed last year. Vietnam is pursuing an export value of US $ 195.1 million, while Indonesia's shipments are only able to record US $ 187.8 million.

VASEP (Vietnamese association of exporters and seafood producers) has a close working relationship with the government to increase exports. This collaboration is the key to Vietnam's overall export success, "said asturi general secretary Hendra Sugandhi, Monday (2/4).

He said Vietnam enjoys higher prices compared to Indonesia. For example, the average price of fresh yellow tuna in Indonesia is US $ 7.32 per kg, while Vietnamese products are US $ 9.24 per kg.

Similarly, the Indonesian Frozen NSPF (not specifically provided for) meat at a price of US $ 8.49 per kg, while Vietnamese products are US $ 10.08 per kg. for the US, Indonesia is the third largest tuna supplier after Thailand and Vietnam. Meanwhile, for Indonesia, Uncle Sam's country is the second largest tuna market in Indonesia after Japan.

Throughout January - November 2017, Uncle Sam bought fishery products worth US $ 1.6 billion or 39% of the total value of Indonesian seafood exports.

Globally, Indonesia must make every effort to meet the requirements in the fishery export market which will be more stringent.

For example, the European Union since 2009 implements the search terms for all imported fishery products, as determined by the catch certificate. The United States from 1 January 2018 followed the lead of the blue continent by implementing the Seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP).
