US Teenager Loses Leg and Several Hand Fingers in a Brutal Shark Attack

Paige Winter, 17 year old, is reported to be brutally attacked by a shark when she was spending the day at the Fort Macon beach in North Carolina. She survived, but not her left leg. Due to the severity of her injury, doctors had to amputate her left leg.

When the attack happened, Paige’s father, Charlie Winter, a firefighter and paramedic, took his part as his daughter’s hero that rushes to her aid and punching the creature for five times to get it off his daughter. Her injuries include sustained deep lacerations to her leg, pelvic, and hand areas, as stated by the Atlantic Beach Fire Department. She then was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Winter’s family has succeeded in raising $11,000 donation on a GoFundMe page for her recovery from the attack. Paige also had come out of surgery in good condition and receiving excellent care. Paige’s mother wrote on her Facebook that her daughter had managed to keep her sense of humor even though she was still a bit drugged. Despite this unfortunate circumstance, Paige does not develop any trauma to the marine life and the animals that live in the water. She even wishes for people to keep respect sharks in their environment and their safety.
