US Call WHO Failed to Handle Corona

US Health Secretary, Alex Azar stated that the World Health Organization (WHO) failed to deal with the corona virus (Covid-19) which is currently out of control and spread throughout the world.

"We must be honest why this outbreak has become unmanageable. This organization (WHO) failed to get the information needed by other countries, and that failure caused many lives to be lost," Azar said in a teleconference speech at the World Health Assembly . (WHA Forum), as reported by the Associated Press, Tuesday (5/19).

Azar also touched on the openness of corona virus data and information. However, he did not immediately accuse the intended party.

"To cover this epidemic, at least one member country is not open and makes the whole world have to pay the price. We see WHO failing to fulfill its main mission of sharing information and openness to all member countries with good intentions," Azar continued.

Azar said that the US fully supports the independent evaluation of all aspects of WHO's response to pandemic management. "This should not happen again. The status quo cannot be tolerated. WHO must change and must be more open and responsible," Azar said. In addition, Azar also touched on the WHO's stance that banned Taiwan's participation as a member state since 2016.

According to him, the people of Taiwan also have the same rights and cannot be sacrificed just because of political turmoil. WHO allegedly rejected Taiwan's application to become a monitoring country because of pressure from China. China claims Taiwan is part of them and has never recognized the sovereignty of the government in the country.

Taiwan was also not invited to the WHA forum held on May 18-19 through a teleconference. Chinese President Xi Jinping said he supported the proposed resolution of a number of members of the World Health Organization (WHO) who requested an inquiry into the origin and treatment of the coronavirus pandemic.
