Uniqlo in Japan to Pay a Huge Amount of Money for Its Employees

Japan is currently facing a shortage of young workers. The reason is mainly because of the low birth rate and it is one of the issues the government needs to solve. Due to the shortage of young workers, Uniqlo in Japan is planning to give them raises—and it’s big.

It is actually expected for Uniqlo to pay their employees a big amount of money. The retail company which was first opened in 2006 is now the third-largest apparel manufacturer and in the world. Last year in 2018, Uniqlo is reported to have sales as much as $19 billion.

Bloomberg reported that Fast Retailing Co.’s (Uniqlo’s owner) CEO Tadashi Yanai is planning to offer salaries for the managers up to $280,000 USD. Yanai is not going to give it to all managers though, only the top ones. However, those who only have worked for only three years will have the chance to get raise. Yanai also revealed the plan will be conducted next year at around March to May 2020.

Previously, it is also reported that Uniqlo sent numbers of employee to other countries as well. Yanai stated that there will be a few changes in that area as well. Those who are sent to U.S. or Europe will get paid 20 to 30 million yen a year, while those who are staying in Japan will get paid more than 10 million yen a year. The amount of money is three times the pay of regular Uniqlo employee. Moreover, it is ten times the pay of most of Japanese managers in the country.
