Unable to detect the novel coronavirus, the WHO concerns over Indonesia

The World Health Organization (WHO) said that Indonesia needs more preparation to face the novel coronavirus. While Indonesia announced no confirmed cases on the coronavirus, the WHO worries that Indonesia actually cannot detect the virus. Why? Its neighboring countries already reported the outbreak.

WHO’s concern emerged that The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Indonesia has not received special test equipment needed to test the novel coronavirus outbreak. Currently, Indonesia only uses pan-coronavirus test equipment only able to test regular flu, SARS, and MERS, but not the novel coronavirus.

Over 28,000 confirmed cases globally including China made the WHO worries when Indonesia said instead that no confirmed cases in its nation. Moreover, the organization under the United Nations (U.N) also called for the Indonesian government to improve its medical facility appointed to handle the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The WHO said that it has collaborated with Indonesia’s Ministry of Health to spread information about the novel coronavirus. The Indonesian government needs to improve the surveillance and detection system for the novel coronavirus.

Moreover, Indonesia needs more preparation in handling the suspected patients and patients positive for the novel coronavirus. The current medical equipment takes a long time to yield results.
