UEFA Finally Confirms on Neymar Three-Match Champions League Ban

Neymar’s three-match Champions League ban was finally confirmed by UEFA on Wednesday (6/19) after it rejected an appeal by the footballer’s club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The ban has been upheld as punishment to Neymar for insulting a referee following his club’s collapse against Manchester United at home on March 6.

On his Instagram account, Neymar wrote in a post with expletives describing the awarded 94th-minute United penalty as ‘disgrace’ and ‘doesn’t exist’ after being ruled out of the match with an injury. He watched from the stands when the United were awarded a penalty after a protracted VAR decision, which Marcus Rashford scored to knock the Parisian football club. Neymar also wrote that the match officials had deployed four men who didn’t understand football to watch the slow-motion replay.

Paris Saint-Germain indicated that they would be ready to offload the talented and brilliant but troublesome football player who cost them 222-million-euro fee to transfer him into the club two years ago.

Neymar had been having a poor season by his own poor behavior after being booed and mocked for diving at the World Cup. He failed to be in the Top 10 in the Ballon d’Or race and injured his right metatarsal just 13 months after a previous lengthy layoff.

He then lost Brazil captaincy due to disciplinary issues and accused of raping a Brazilian woman in Paris—but he denies the accusations.
