Truck collides with a motorbike on a highway in Jakarta, 1 dead

On Thursday (5/9) before midnight at 11.28 p.m., an accident happened involving a motorbike and a container truck at an odd spot, the highway. The collision between the motorbike and the truck happened on Tomang – Kebon Jeruk highway at Km 1.

It was still unknown how the motorbike with plate number “B 3438 TEM” could enter the highway. After all, the law forbids motorbike to enter the highway. The truck with plate number “B 9439 TZ” then collided with the motorbike. The police have yet identified the chronology of the incident.

Due to the collision, the biker, known as Hendra Hutayan (27), died on the spot. On its official Twitter account, Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police, known locally as Polda Metro Jaya, showed the condition of the mangled motorbike aftermath the crash. The collision made a traffic jam until Friday (6/9) at 12.03 a.m.

Polda Metro Jaya regretted the incident. However, it admitted that the traffic signals just before the highway gate were too confusing; therefore, many bikers often mistake it and wrongly enter the highway. Until now, Polda Metro Jaya is still investigating the incident.

Indonesian Government has regulated a separate regulation for motorbikes to pass through highway in the Government Regulations No. 44 of 2009 which revised Article 38 of Government Regulations No. 15 of 2005 regarding toll road. The revision was made due to the mass amount of motorbike in Indonesia.

The regulation states that a motorbike may enter the highway if it provides a lane for motorbikes to pass. Three highways in Indonesia provide lanes for motorbikes: Suramadu Highway, Bali Mandara Highway, and Balikpapan – North Penajam Paser Highway.
