Visitor tour the ruins of the No.2 Sea Fort in Tokyo Bay on May 11 (Takuya Isayama)

Tourists are Now Invading the Old Sea Fort in Tokyo Bay Since It’s Re-opened

Futtsu, Japan - On May 11, The artificial island fortress, known as the Fortress No. 2, or Daini Kaiho, in Futtsu, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, began receiving tour groups to enjoy its beauty and historical. Now the sea fortress that was built more than a century ago in the heart of Tokyo Bay to repel invaders welcomes tourists in order to make sure the capital remains strong and unforgettable.

The fortress, located about 3.5 kilometers west off the Futtsu Cape, has been closed to the public for years without any tourist visiting. However, the land ministry, who manages the island, started accepting group tours operated by tour companies on a trial basis last year to utilize it as a tourism resource and income.

The good news is, the visitors are allowed to visit the sea fort starting from this year since the ministry has allowed the tourist to come and feel the incredible Fortress No.2 through the travel agencies that guide the tours, and it is reported that four travel agencies are scheduled to conduct 11 more tours of the sea fort together in May this year, bringing more visitors to the island.

This year the travel agencies are allowed by the tourism ministry to open and plan some tours to the sea fort. The visitors finally arrived in this unique island and walked around a vestige of former artillery batteries and other armaments after a 30-minute boat ride from Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture and they had to climb the hill to reach the fort and enjoy the historical and beautiful scenery of the island.
