Tokyo Games Committee to hold meeting over Mori's comment

As early as Friday, the Tokyo Games organizing committee is scheduled to hold a special board meeting following the sexist comment made by the committee's president, Yoshiro Mori. While there is no plan to overthrow Mori, yet he is facing backlash for his outcry.

Previously last week, Mori stated that female participants in the meeting took a long time, were too competitive, and should have "said less". Mori immediately apologized and took back his comments. However, the anger of the people was already triggered. Due to his comment, about 440 volunteers resigned and local organizers received more than 5,000 complaints.

When asked about the incident, the Olympic Minister, Seiko Hashimoto, stated that the team is taking the matter very seriously. Moreover, some volunteers stated that what Mori had said was an embarrassment to Japan.

While hundreds resigned, dozens of thousands signed up to volunteer, and many stayed. Some even tried to understand that Mori's old age might be the main reason why he said such an embarrassing statement. Some even disregarded what Mori said, and stated that they only focused on the successful and safe Tokyo Olympics.

However, an online petition to topple Mori has gathered 140,000 signatures currently. Moreover, Mainichi also called out Mori and urged him to quit. Some sponsors involved in the Summer Olympics also disappointed with Mori's statement.
