TOKOPEDIA FIRES TENS OF EMPLOYEES FOR ALLEGED FRAUD: REPORT

E-commerce platform Tokopedia reportedly fired tens of its employees who allegedly committed fraud during a promotion campaign.

As reported by tempo.co, Tokopedia's head of corporate communications, Priscilla Anais, said in a statement on Monday that such conduct would not be tolerated.

She said, ever since its founding, Tokopedia has had a business development philosophy that was based on trust and the company would take firm action against employees who do not adhere to those principles.

"All Nakama [a nickname for Tokopedia employees] have to be trusted [by customers]. Failure to maintain this trust means failure to maintain integrity," she added.

According to tempo.co, the employees were fired on Aug. 24 for alleged cheating during a flash sale promotion campaign that was held to celebrate the company's anniversary. This led to Tokopedia users being unable to fairly purchase low-priced products during the program. Senior employees are said to be among those who were fired.
