Tips on how to work with a new team

Working on a brand new business project with new team members may sometimes be exhausting. Starting to work with a new team that you didn’t handpick usually need some sort of adjustment effort. However, people will always find a way to struggle through the dissimilarities and work together to accomplish their goals. Here are some tips on how to work with a new team.

1. Spend a little time to get to know each other
Before you start doing your work with your new team, make sure you have spent some time to get to know each other better. Take 30 minutes to gather at one place to share some information about everyone at the table. You may also find some common ground and become good teammates later.

2. Be flexible
Be ready to try new methods and approaches as you work with your new team. Don’t go in a defiant mode in the first meeting as what you used to do. Always be ready to learn and discover new things.

3. Give the others the freedom of speech
Everyone on the table may not know your boundaries so they are afraid to say what’s on their head and afraid to offend. It is better for you to let others know that it is okay for you to get direct feedback where you don’t mind having a healthy conflict in the end.

4. Keep an open mind
When you have worked with the same team for a long period of time, you probably have a comfort zone which will now be off-limits. You tend to compare the old team behaviors with the new one. Reset your way of thinking as now you have to work with different people within a new dynamic.

5. Have fun!
No matter how serious the situation is, never forget to enjoy what you do. Find ways to keep you happy and put a little smile or laugh as you bond with other people. Having a good mood will help you and your teammates to be more productive at work.
