The youngest prime minister in Denmark is about to lead the government

Denmark’s youngest ever prime minister is to announce that before 2030 the government will increase public spending and cut greenhouse gas emissions by 70%. Mette Frederiksen, the Social Democrats leader said that after three weeks of negotiations, three leftist parties agreed to form one minority government party.

However, reports suggest that in order to reach the agreement with her leftwing partners and center-left government in the Nordic this year, she had to give ground on several of her party’s controversial hardline on immigration.
Despite a slight fall to 29.5%, the opposition Social Democrats, won Denmark’s general election on 5 June. However, negotiations aiming at securing the parliamentary of the three other parties will take 20 days, it is the longest negotiation period since 1988.

Social Democrat’s headline on immigration may have moved politics to the left in Denmark. Although the party lost more votes that it won from the DPP, a leftist minority government is allowed to oust the center-right by the net transfer.

Many political scientists believe that it is far from sure that the same tactic that Social Democrat use could be replicated in other European countries where voters have turned their back on the center-left for economic reason.
