The UK to deploy drones to Iran

Following the seizure of British-flagged tankers near the Strait of Hormuz, the UK stated its consideration to deploy drones over Iran. Since July, the UK has been in an uproar because Iran seized two of its tankers. Since then, the UK ordered warships to escort the British-flagged oil tankers en route to the Strait of Hormuz, preventing any seizure by the Iranian force.

Royal Air Force (RAF) of the UK revealed that they have numerous Reaper-type drones stationed in nearby Kuwait and those drones are currently monitoring Iraq and Syria. Should the decision is final, the UK will deploy the drones over Iran.

On 5 August, the UK agreed to cooperate with the US in a joint mission to guard all shipments entering the Strait of Hormuz.

After the Stena Impero incident in July, the relations between the UK and Iran started to worsen as Iran questions every ship passing through the Gulf whether they had British crews or not.

As the situation between the UK and Iran is still on the heat, British Naval began to question Iran’s commitment to obey international regulations. Last Friday (30/8), the UK called for support from the international community to tackle Iran’s seizure.
