The Owner of Man City is eyeing to invest in a Malaysia Club

A Malaysian sports official revealed on Friday that City Football Group (CFG), the owners of Manchester City, are eyeing stake in a Malaysian club to increase to their portfolio of teams.   

The possibility raised after the chief executive officer of the CFG Ferran Soriano met Syed Saddiq the Sports Minister of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. 

During the meeting, Soriano said that CFG see Malaysia has a big opportunity for football due to the development of Malaysian football and the league in the last year with investment by the government showing great. 

He also mentioned that football’s fans in Malaysia are obviously enthusiastic.  

The director general of Malaysia's national sports council Ahmad Shapawi Ismail, said to AFP that he felt delighted and excited to know the fact that the owners of Premier League Champions are interested in co-owning a Malaysian club.  

The City Group’s representative did not reveal the club that they wanted to co-own, but the Malaysia’s Sports Minister said that there would be a meeting between CFG and some local clubs’ president in the near future.  He also hoped Malaysia can be the group’s base in Southeast Asia. 

Soriano said that Malaysia is the latest Asian country being taking into account by CFG and in March the group is going to invest in a India club. 

The CFG owns many clubs in Major League Football – Manchester City in Premier League, New York City Football Club in the MLS, Melbourne City FC of the A-League Yokohama F Marinos in J1 League, Atletico Torque FC of the Uruguayan Primera DivisiónGirona FC from Spain and China football club Sichuan Jiuniu.
