The official Minister of Law and Human Rights made an amnesty recommendation for Baiq Nuril

Baiq Nuril case has entered a new phase. After Supreme Court (MA) had refused her judicial review (PK), Nuril, together with her legal team, still didn’t want to give up. Through the Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna Laoly, they have submitted a letter of recommendation containing an amnesty request for Baiq Nuril to the Indonesian President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

This was stated by one of Baiq Nuril Maknun legal team, Erasmus Napitupulu. He said that Minister Yasonna had signed the letter of recommendation at KSP office, Ministry of State Secretariat, Jakarta, Thursday (11/07/2019). Erasmus said that the recommendations didn’t only come from ministers, but also from Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI). Therefore, he was optimistic that request for this amnesty would be accepted by President Jokowi.

Previously, Baiq Nuril was tried for being entangled in the ITE Law, where she made unauthorized recording and distributed it. Nuril reasoned that she wants to reveal the harassment carried out by his superiors, a school principal with the initials HM. She said that the principal always said obscene words when calling her. Unfortunately, even though she had been decided freely at the first court, she was sentenced to 6 months in prison and fined Rp. 500 million. This decision made the public feel shocked and surprised. Because what Nuril did was self-defense for being harassed.

Responding to this case, Deputy V Office of Presidential Staff, Jaleswari Pramodhawardani, said that President Jokowi had paid special attention to this case. He also promised to respond the request for amnesty from Baiq Nuril.
