The Cranberries Just Released Emotional Animated Music Video

On April 26 2019, they already released their first album since the death of their legendary singer, Dolores O’Riordan. That album named In the End. Now they just unveiled the music video of a song, “Wake Me When It’s Over”, from the album. It came out as emotional, surreal, dreamy, and thought-provoking animated music video. This video is aligned with the message in the song.

Tom Clancy, the creative director, said that the song itself could be interpreted as the representation of mother nature. For this music video, The Cranberries had collaborated with students of the Limerick School of Art and Design. Those students are from the band’s hometown, Limerick, Ireland. It tells about a feminine superhero who’s attempting to overcome all that crosses her path. On her journey, she morphs into various animals whose habitats exist between land, water, and sky. In the animated music video, the woman running past several painted landscapes. She passes by a dead lion and elephant, who are disintegrated into pieces as she runs faster. Then when she keep running, she’s transformed into several animals including a deer, a polar bear, and a dolphin. At the end of the video, she turns back into her former self.

The meaning of the song “Wake Me When It’s Over” had been translated into the music video as the destruction of natural environment. However, The Cranberries’ drummer, Fergal Lawler, said that it can be interpreted as Dolores’ personal struggle. Fergal also said, Dolores had a long held belief that the listener can always decide for themselves what any of her songs are about. It looks like they have made the album and the music videos carefully, as these are their last creations before The Cranberries will be disbanded.
