Tesla Club Indonesia, an 'exclusive club' of electric vehicle

An association of Tesla users in Indonesia was officially established on Thursday night. Dubbed as Tesla Club Indonesia (TSI), the club is filled with “exclusive” names sitting in the governmental institutions, especially its administration.

In the TCI inauguration ceremony on Thursday night, the representatives of Indonesian auto clubs, from Lamborghini to Rolls Royce, also attended. Even the Governor of Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, also did not miss the event.

For the 2019 – 2020 TCI administration, the Speaker for Indonesia’s People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Bambang Soesatyo, generally known as “Bamsoet”, acts as its Executive Advisor. For its Executive Director, TCI appointed Rudy Salim, the figure responsible for the import of Tesla cars.

The President of TCI is given to Ahmad Sahroni, a member of the People’s Consultative Council (DPR). In recent months, Ahmad caught public attention with his collection of luxurious cars, and one of which is Tesla. Residing in Tanjong Priok, North Jakarta, people gave him the nickname “Crazy Rich Tanjung Priok”.

Both Ahmad and Bamsoet stated the same thing about the vision and mission of TCI. The club was founded to improve people’s awareness of environmental health in Indonesia. The electric vehicle is hailed as one of the solutions for the matter.

To realize its “green” mission and vision, Sahroni revealed TCI’s agenda from Tesla touring to other social activities. Rudy also said that the most important thing for the club now is to call for environment conservation and charity movements.

Currently, TCI consists of 11 members only. Sahroni stated his optimism that the number will increase.
