Tax Evasion Case, Shakira was Interrogated

Hollywood, USA - It is reported that, on Thursday (6/6), a Colombian singer, Shakira attended a Spanish court calling at 10:00 local time after the district attorney accused her of avoiding paying taxes in the 2012-2014 period or tax evasion worth 14.5 million euro, equivalent to USD 16.3 million.

This Spanish soccer player Gerard Pique's wife attended the court immediately however, she avoided dozens of journalists and photographers who were waiting for her in the Courthouse on Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain.

Shakira is reported to have resided with her husband and two sons in Spain since 2011 ago. However, she claimed to have moved first after marrying Pique to the Bahamas Islands until 2015.

Shakira's attorney defended his client that she was earning a large portion of her income from an international tour until 2014. In fact, his client did not live more than six months in one year in Spain in that period. According to Shakira's attorney, the 'Hips Don't Lie' singer has fulfilled all of her tax obligations to the Spanish authorities until today.

Shakira is not the first celebrity to stumble over the tax issue. In July 2016, soccer player Lionel Messi and his father Jorge were given a 21-month suspended sentence after being found guilty of tax evasion of the player's image.

Former Real Madrid soccer player Christiano Ronaldo also pleaded guilty to tax fraud and paid a fine of nearly 19 million euro or around IDR 313 billion in exchange for a two-year prison sentence from the judge.
