Taking advantage of the Hong Kong protest, Trump sweet talks Xi into a new trade deal

While Hong Kong protesters want the President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, to help them go against Chinese intervention over their land, the President has a different thing in mind.

After 10 weeks of silence about the protest, Trump finally said something about it in his fashion, Twitter. On a Thursday (19/9) tweet, Trump unceasingly sent compliments to his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, and believed that Xi could resolve the matter in a “humane” solution by meeting the protesters in person.

Thursday’s tweet was threaded with the previous one that the US President wrote on Wednesday (18/9). The interesting fact about the tweet is that in the end, Trump hinted that he was looking forward to meeting Xi once more.

The cry for the meeting was the second time addressed by Trump to Xi. The first one came during the G-20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, last June.

However, Trump’s comment on Hong Kong protest would likely be ignored by Beijing. As China’s ambassador to the UK, Liu Xiaoming, had already warned against any foreign interference to the matter. The concern is that the Chinese might respond in violence as well as its paramilitary was seen around the bridge from mainland China to Hongkong.

Since reverting back to China in 1997 from the British colonization, the recent Hong Kong protest becomes the most intense and violent, involving the arrest of 750 people and a round of tear gasses and bean bag bullets.

For two days, the protesters seized Hong Kong airports, causing 1,000 flights to be canceled. The airport seizing was seen by the protesters as a direct message to the international community.

The protesters demand to impeach the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam, revoke the extradition bill, acquit the arrested protesters, and more freedom of speech.
