Suspect's Motive for Kawasaki Knife Attack Remains Unclear

TOKYO – After the stab attack that happened this week in Kawasaki, the investigators stated that the motive of the suspect is still unclear. They said even after searching his home, they still have not got the hints of why the suspect did his action.

The suspect, Ryuichi Iwasaki, was living with his aunt and uncle, before committed suicide at the scene. He left a notebook in the house, but it didn’t give any clue about his motives. It is revealed that Iwasaki stayed a lot in his room and has a TV as well as game console. However, there is not internet connection, smartphone, or computer. Two magazines about serial murders (which were published more than a decade ago) were found at his room.

A neighbor testimony and CCTV footage shows that Iwasaki left his home around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, on the day of the attack. After that, he used Odakyu Line to go to Noborito Station where he attacked a group of Caritas Elementary School students and parents. The attack happened at around 7:40 a.m.

Iwasaki was also seen walking to a convenience store, where he put on his gloves. Police believed that Iwasaki observed the students before he attacked them. The police are planning to look at past footage to see if he had plan the attack beforehand.
