Suspect May Have Checked Site of Kawasaki Knife Attack 4 Days Before

YOKOHAMA – On Monday, investigative source revealed about the progress of the Kawasaki knife attack. According to them, the suspect might have observed the scene four days before he stabbed the victims. The incident itself occurred last week, leaving three dead (including the suspect himself) and injured dozens.

Ryuici Iwasaki who is the suspect of the incident, was capture in security cameras installed around the crime scene on May 24. That is four days before he attacked the students on Tuesday, May 28. Other than around crime scene, Iwasaki also seen nearby Noborito Station and Yomiuriland-mae Station on the Odakyu Line, the closest station to his house.

The police also found out that Iwasaki bought knives back in February at a mass merchandise retailer in Machida, Tokyo. With this discovery, the police suspect that the attack was planned for months.

May 24, the day when Iwasaki captured on security camera, was the last regular school day—there was a sports event on May 25. On that day, many school children were waiting for school buses near the crime scene, just like the day of the incident. However, the motive of the attack is still unknown.

Iwasaki lived with his aunt and uncle who are in the 80s. It is revealed that Iwasaki has not worked for a long and reclusive. He mostly spent his time in his room, but without computer or smartphone.
