Strike at Airport in Italy Causing Hundreds of Flights Canceled

A 24-hour coordinated strike across Italian airport continues to run on Tuesday (5/21). The strike that involves airport, airlines, and air-traffic control staffs are leading to hundreds of upcoming flights cancelations. It is reported that the cause of this strike is disputes over pay and working conditions.

Milan and Rome are said to have the most cancelations, making the two cities get the worst effect from this industrial action.

The national airline of Alitalia has canceled 325 flights, including half of its flight for May 21 that will begin from tonight to the next morning of May 22. In addition, international airlines such as EasyJet and British Airways also experienced a similar thing. Many airlines have collectively suffered losses of millions of dollars for losing revenue and passenger care costs because of this incident.

To mitigate any inconvenience experienced by the passengers, airlines committed to taking special measures. According to Alitalia’s spokesperson, it has been operating bigger aircraft for both domestic and international flights to accommodate the customers. In addition, passengers who will have their flights today are urged to check their flight status before leaving for the airport. They also need to provide contact information in their bookings so that the airlines can keep them up to date regarding their flights.
