Still Seeking Changes to the Extradition Bill, Hong Kong Activists will protest at the G20 Summit

Hong Kong - It is reported that, on Wednesday (6/26/19), more than a thousand protesters marched to a large foreign consulate in Hong Kong, urging leaders at the upcoming G20 summit to support the full abolition of the controversial extradition bill that is concerning the people.

They also asked for help from several countries to discuss the polemic and put pressure on China at the G20 Summit which will take place in Osaka, Japan, this week to ensure that they will be heard by the government.

The activists also raised IDR 9 billion to advertise in well-known newspapers such as The New York Times to convey their demands. Some activists even went to Osaka directly and intended to protest on the sidelines of the G20 Summit building later on.

It is informed that, at the US consulate office, the protesters handed over the petition in hopes of being presented to President Donald Trump as Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are scheduled to attend the G20 Summit this weekend.

If the government agreed and authorized, the regulation can make Hong Kong residents extradited to mainland China if they considered doing subversive to the government.

This protest is also supported as there is currently no renewal of equipment export licenses to deal with unrest for the Hong Kong police. However, according to a source from the British Foreign Ministry, they will not issue the permit until the Hong Kong police met the British government's request about grenade exports and tear gas ammunition permits.
