Airbnb is expanding! The bed and breakfast rent app is now offering luxurious and extravagant places to rent. For people who dreamt for staying at a luxurious place like Hollywood A-list stars’ home, they can make their dreams come true.The new option is called Airbnb Luxe which allows people to rent houses starts at $1,000 per night. Airbnb Luxe does not only offer big homes, though. They stated that they have carefully picked 2,000 homes around the world, with luxurious designs and incredible view. However, Airbnb does not only picked the house based on those two things—they revealed there are about 300 criteria that need to be ticked for a house to be chosen. Design and functions are the most important criteria of each house.
Airbnb Luxe is actually grained from the acquisition of Luxury Retreats. Back in 2017, Airbnb bought Luxury Retreats. Although it may seem like the price is quite similar to luxury hotels such as Marriott and Four Seasons, Airbnb Luxe is still cheaper than luxurious hotels. A hotel room can only accommodate around 2-3 people, while Airbnb can accommodate up to 6 people, if it’s the entire house. It still makes Airbnb Luxe cheaper than hotels if the payment is shared, which make Airbnb confident their newest option is going to be profitable.
Airbnb is founded in 2008 by Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia. Started as a platform for people to rent places, it is reported that the company is wort of $25 billion as it has 60 million guests using the service. 11 years later, they have expanded to other areas such as Airbnb Experiences where travelers can book tours and activity, as well as Airbnb Luxe where people can book a luxurious home.
