No more 'fried rice', Firli urged to resign
Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) urged the chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Firli Bahuri, to resign. ICW claimed that Firli has failed to stay committed to his corruption eradication mission by failing to arrest the fugitives Harun Masiku and Nurhadi.In January 2020, a sting operation done by KPK resulted in the apprehension of Harun Masiko and the other three personnel (former KPK commissioner, Wahyu Setiawan; former member of Bawaslu, Agustiani Tio Fridelina, and a private member, Saefu), charged of corruption. Two months passed, KPK still could not arrest Harun.
Speaking on Thursday, ICW researcher, Kurnia Ramadhana, stated that Firli’s passiveness over the matter made him ineligible to lead KPK. In fact, Kurnia accused Firli as not being unable, but not willing to arrest Harun and Nurhadi. The researcher pointed out that it has been two months and Harun is still at large. Even, the Indonesian public does not know the development.
Kurnia said that KPK under Firli has experienced a huge drawback. Since his inauguration as the chairman of KPK last December, Firli has not given any meaningful contribution to the commission. He insinuated that rather than cook fried rice, Firli should focus on KPK’s pending cases.
Not only Kurnia, but all corruption eradication researchers also supported the claim. They all said that Firli has been rendered ineligible to lead KPK. The commission has been endowed with the technology needed to hunt these corruptors. Therefore, the matter is not the facility, but the willpower to catch the fugitives. And, Firli does not have that.
Furthermore, the researchers said that Firli only stalled time by his complicated narrations without any concrete actions.
Replying to the call for resignation, Firli remains calm. He said that it is ICW’s duty to criticize KPK.
