Spreading Radiation, One Nuclear Power Plant in Japan is Closed

Namie City, Fukushima - It is reported by Reuters on Thursday (25/7) that Daiichi nuclear power plant in Namie City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan which was hiatus because of damaged and spreading radiation due to the devastating earthquake in 2011 ago, is finally closed this year.

According to the source, the Daini nuclear power plant was actually almost damaged by the earthquake eight years ago. However, the reactor cooling device was still functioning at that time using backup power. Even though the machines were still working, the Fukushima regional government did not allow the facility to continue to be operated for safety reason.

TEPCO now only has one nuclear power plant, located in Kawazaki Kariwa. However, the facility is now also being improved to adjust new security standards to prevent what happened on the Daiichi nuclear power plant incident. On the other hand, local residents refused if the nuclear power plant was operated again as they are very afraid of the negative effects later on.

It is reported that TEPCO President, Tomoaki Kobayakawa said that he will meet with the Fukushima governor to deliver the plan. After that, the board of commissioners will decide the closure plan at the meeting and the future plan to improve and built nuclear power plants that are safe and far from the residential areas.
