South Korean Protesters Were Detained After Illegally Entering Japan Consulate

Japan and South Korea are currently in the middle of trade dispute. It was all started when the South Korea’s Supreme Court ordered Japan’s companies to pay for the compensation. The compensation must be paid due to South Koreans labor during the 1910-1945 war. However, Japanese did not seem to like it because Prime Minister Abe decided to curb the export to South Korea. Because of this, South Korea does not feel ease, as they need the exported materials for the mobile phones products.

The trade dispute is still going on up until now, and it does not seem like the dispute is going to stop anytime soon. On Monday, July 22, some of South Koreans did a anti-Tokyo demonstration in front of a Japanese diplomatic facility. During the protest, the police detained six people for illegally entering the Japanese Consulate in Busan. These people were allowed to enter the Japanese Consulate after they told the staff that they want to visit the library. However, they suddenly went out to the consulate’s yard while holding a placard that says, “Abe must apologize”. These people were immediately detained by the police. Any major violence did not happen during the incident.

The six people are reported to be university students and they are part of a new anti-Japanese organization in Busan. Previously, last Friday, a 78-year-old South Korean man did a suicide by burning himself near the Japanese Embassy which located in Seoul.
