South Korea says that the North has fired two short-range ballistic missiles

The South Korean military’s joint chiefs of staff (JCS) said that North Korea has fired two short-range ballistic missiles in less than a week after a test launch. The latest launches on Wednesday took place at the Hodo peninsula on North Korea’s east coast, where the previous launches were conducted. Furthermore, the repeated missile launches of the North are not helping to ease the tension and the JCS urge the North to stop this kind of action.

The two missiles that were fired on 25 July is the first missile tests since Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump met last June and made an agreement to revive stalled denuclearization talks. Shinzo Abe, the Japanese prime minister said that there was no impact on Japan’s security regarding the launch. Pompeo also said he hoped to work on the revive denuclearization very soon.

Last week’s launches were played down by Trump and the US secretary, Mike Pompeo and Pompeo has continued on hoping for a diplomatic way with North Korea. Moreover, Pompeo and the North Korea foreign minister Ri Yong is expected to meet on the sidelines of south-east Asia security forum in Bangkok this week, but Ri has canceled the meeting and the senior US official has confirmed that Ri would not be in Bangkok.
