Citing an anonymous source, The Times of London stated that the Japanese Government secretly decided that the Summer Olympics in Tokyo does, indeed, have to be canceled. The decision came as the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic remains uncontrollable in the world's third-largest economy. Moreover, the Times of London also stated that now Japan focuses on getting the next Olympics bid for Tokyo which will be available in 2032.

Compared to other large economy countries, Japan is not blown away severely by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the reoccurrence of the COVID-19 cases forced the country to announce a state of emergency in Tokyo and other major cities and refuse any non-resident entrances. Furthermore, 80 percent of the Japanese people don't want to see the Summer Olympics in 2021 either as they fear that the athletes will also infect or be infected.

The Times stated that the Japanese Government currently is trying to find a way to announce the cancellation while saving its face so that the possibility of Tokyo being the next Olympics host remains open at later date. The Tokyo Games organizers have not responded to the report by The Times of London.

Meanwhile, the Tokyo Games organizers and the Japanese Government have vowed to successfully hold the Summer Olympics in Japan on 23 July. The Prime Minister of Japan, Yoshihide Suga, saw that the Summer Olympics will prove as a beacon of hope and courage for the distressed world.

Even, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, has reinstated his commitment to the successful Tokyo Games during a Tuesday interview with Kyodo News, saying that there is no reason to believe that the Summer Olympics will be canceled.
