Social Democratic Party seeks to recover party power to introduce quota system

On the 14th, the Social Democratic Party decided to introduce a quota system that allocates women to party leaders and candidates for national elections at a certain rate. With the division over the confluence with the Constitutional Democratic Party , the number of members of the Diet, including Mr. Fukushima, has become two, and the aim is to promote a gender equality party" to restore the party .

Mizuho Fukushima, the leader of the party, said at a press conference on the same day, "The Social Democratic Party aims to be such a party, half men and women." The current members of the Diet are Mr. Fukushima, a member of the House of Councilors who is the leader of the party, and two men and women, a member of the House of Representatives Kantoku Teruya .

The party's goal is to increase the proportion of women to 50% among national standing secretaries and candidates for national elections . In addition, the ratio of women will be 35% for the three roles of the prefectural federation and the permanent secretary.

Mr. Fukushima said, "The three roles of the prefectures and the standing secretary may take some time, but I will definitely ask for women to be included."

In the world ranking of gender equality released by the World Economic Forum two years ago , Japan is 121st, but in the political field it is even worse at 144th. The national gender equality basic plan states that the percentage of women who are candidates for national elections will be 35% in 2025, and that political parties will be requested to introduce a quota system.
