Shipment drops, Samsung focuses on innovation

International Data Corporation’s (IDC's) Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker revealed that Samsung’s Q3 performance faded in terms of smartphone shipment figures. Samsung’s smartphone shipment went down into third place, bested by Oppo and Vivo having snatched the first and second place respectively.

IDC stated that the largest market in Indonesia is reserved for smartphones in the Rp2 million price range.

Market analysts explained that Samsung’s fall from grace was because it was too hasty in releasing the A series. The latest A10 and A20 were the expansion of the A-series.

It was not overall bad. Samsung’s latest A-series managed to hoist Samsung’s Q1 (January – March) and Q2 (April – June) performances. At that time, Samsung managed to keep its crown as the top vendors for smartphones in Indonesia with 26.9 percent of smartphone shipments in Q2.

While the features offered were, indeed, up-to-date, the specification upgrades were not that significant.

Regarding the statistics by the independent research firm, Samsung Indonesia did not waver.

Speaking to press after Media Session of Samsung Galaxy Fold, Friday, Product Marketing Manager of Samsung Mobile, Taufiq Furqan, said that the most important thing for Samsung is focusing on making innovations for the satisfaction of Indonesian gadget lovers.

Taufik hinted that Samsung Indonesia is preparing techs to be introduced in 2020. Moreover, the latest foldable smartphone from Samsung, Galaxy Fold, was recently introduced in Indonesia.

While Samsung is sitting on the third seat, Xiaomi and Realme are sitting on the fourth and fifth seats respectively.
