Sharp's new lineup of small humanoid robots to go on sale

Sharp Corp says its new lineup of RoBoHon small humanoid robots with smartphone-like functions will go on sale in late February.

The three models, priced between 79,000 yen and 180,000 yen, will come with functions including child monitoring and controlling home appliances. RoBoHon, a two-legged robot with artificial intelligence features, can sense people and send photos it takes to designated email addresses. Sharp said parents can check whether their children have arrived home through such functionality.

One of the models, which is 19.8 centimeters tall and weighs 395 grams, can walk, while a new addition to the lineup of RoBoHon, launched in 2016, is a seated type that cannot walk or dance but is 40 percent cheaper than the previous low-end model. The humanoid robots, which can also speak English, Korean and Chinese if necessary programs are installed, are so far only available in the Japanese market.
