Sexism in The Salary, Switzerland Women Riot

Switzerland - It is reported that, on Friday (14/6), women from all over Switzerland joined in a riot and demonstration in several big cities in Swiss. According to the source, they left their jobs and burned their underwear to demand better gender equality and treatment, including the equal salary, and to end sexual harassment and violence.

This action was done by several women from various trade unions, feminist groups, and women's organizations. They argued that Switzerland, as one of the richest countries in the world, gives poor treatment to half its population, especially to women.

According to USS, one of the organizations that initiated the action stated that, hundreds of thousands of women taking part in the action. June 14, 2019 is a history for Switzerland as one of the biggest political events.

According to CNN, at midnight, protesters came together along with the action motto: "Pay, time, respect." The sentence is an expression of gender inequalities that occur in the workplace and domestic sphere. They were also marching to the middle of the city to burn wooden pallets, then throwing objects such as ties and clothes in the middle of the flames.

In the action, several parliamentarians joined in and wearing purple as the color of this movement.

A report published by the Tribune de Geneve proved that, women who work in the banking sector earn 25 percent less than men. This made Switzerland ranked 20th in the World Economic Forum's classification of gender equality and far below other European countries.

It is reported that, in a manifesto of 19 points, Swiss women called for better protection, equal salary, flexible working time, the right to choose sexual identity, the struggle against homophobia, and several other issues in the country during the riot.
