Saudi Arabia has denied the charge of murdering Khashoggi to Prince Salman

Investigation of the murder case of Jamal Khashoggi still continues. According to an investigation report from the United Nations (UN), it was said that there was strong suspicion that not only involved important officials, but also the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS). UN also stated that they had evidence and suggested that Prince Salman be questioned immediately.

After conducting a six-month investigation, the UN special rapporteur, Agnes Callamard, concluded that Saudi Arabia had carried out deliberate and planned executions of Khashoggi. Callamard also explained that the US must expand sanctions against the Saudis, including against MbS and its assets abroad if the successor to the Saudi throne failed to prove he was not involved in the Khashoggi murder.

Quoted by Reuters on Wednesday (6/19), Callamard said that she had credible evidence that MbS was involved in the killings and had to take further investigations. This further investigation is needed to find out whether MbS is involved in this murder directly or indirectly.

This report was also denied by Saudi Foreign Minister, Adel al-Jubeir. Through several tweets on Thursday (20/6), he said that there was nothing new in the report.

Earlier Jamal Khashoggi, a reporter criticizing MbS, was killed inside the Saudi consulate building in Istanbul, Turkey in October 2018 after being declared missing. Although initially had denied, the Saudis finally admitted that Khashoggi was killed inside their consulate building. However, Riyadh insisted that their kingdom wasn’t involved in the journalist’s murder. They confirmed that the killings were carried out by several Saudi officials with illegal orders. So far, Saudi prosecutors have indicted 11 suspects related to this murder, which five of them were threatened with death.
