Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture, announced on March 3rd that the new station of the prefecture's third sector Sanriku Railway, “Nittaro”, will open on May 18th. Directly connected to the city's Taro Government Building, it is expected to improve the convenience of residents. The new station is between Setai and Taro, about 500 meters north of Taro station. The city will move the Taro Government Building to the southwest for more than 100 meters and build it next to the new station.

At the newly opened Sanriku Railway's Nittaro Station, a commemorative ceremony was held with the opening of a new Sanriku Railway station in the Taro area of Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture, which was heavily damaged by the tsunami of the Great East Japan Earthquake. A man in his 70s, who lives in a house rebuilt on a hill after the earthquake, said, "It's very convenient because there is a station near my house. I want the locals to liven up around this station."

On the newly built platform on the 18th, and about 60 people including those involved gathered. At the ceremony, Mr. Ichiro Nakamura, president of Sanriku Railway Co. , declared that he would like to open the station by saying “I want to improve the lives of residents and the convenience of tourists”. At around 9 am, a one-car train commemorative train departed for Miyako Station while elementary school children and residents along the line waved off the big catch flag.
