S. Korea, Japan, and US Agree to Denuclearize N. Korea

SINGAPORE - Three countries are up in arms against N. Korea. Based on the result of meeting at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, Sunday (2/6), South Korea, Japan, and USA agree on the denuclearization of Korean Peninsula, and of course, N. Korea.

The meeting, dubbed as "Shangri-La Dialogue", was hosted at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, which at that time also hosted 18th Asia Security Summit, following the projectile from N.Korea. The meeting was attended by three Security Representatives of the 3 countries: Jeong Kyeong-doo (S. Korean Minister of Defense), Takeshi Iwaya (Japanese Minister of Defense), and Patrick Shanahan (US Acting Secretary of Defense). The meeting marked the second time after their first Defense Trilateral Talks (DTT) on 9 May.

“Our cooperation (Japan, S. Korea, and US) symbolizes the greatest democratic force in Asia Pacific,” asserted Shanahan.

The 3 countries have 1 goal in common: to denuclearize N. Korea. They all believed that a peaceful world starts from disarmament of all weaponry, especially nukes. Kyeong-doo once addressed the matter at the 18th Asia Security Summit, stating that the nuclear deal with N. Korea could still be negotiated diplomatically.

Meanwhile, US is still trying to achieve the full denuclearization of N. Korea, however, with Hanoi Summit breakdown, the goal is far from done. Nonetheless, Iwaya said that the summit, even though ended in debacle, sparked hopes for a better world.

As part of strengthening their cooperation in defense and in achieving the goal, S. Korea and Japan decided to reactivate their defense cooperation put aside their enmity, due misunderstanding between them because of S. Korean ship tried to bring down Japanese petrol plane that was flying by with a fire control radar.
