Russia defends Iran over missiles, blames the U.S instead

Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, accused the United States (U.S) as the cause behind the Ukrainian passenger plane’s shooting by Iran. Lavrov said that the missile was “nervous” having been provoked by the American F-35 raptor.

Iran accidentally shot down a Ukrainian passenger plane when they prepared to retaliate the U.S drone strike that assassinated its top general, Qasem Soleimani, in Baghdad, Iraq, on 3 January. The assassination was feared to be a prelude to an open war between Washington and Tehran.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) shot the Ukrainian plane twice with projectiles, killing all 176 passengers and crews. IRGC stated that it was a “human error”.

However, Iran still vowed to avenge Soleimani by raining down projectiles over U.S bases and embassy in Iraq.

Speaking to AFP on Saturday, Lavrov said that right on the northern side of Iran’s border, there were six F-35 raptors. Iran was waiting for another attack from the U.S. Lavrov also condoned the action.

While taking no sides, Lavrov condemned the assassination of Qasem Soleimani by the U.S, referring to the incident as a violation of the existing international norms. Nonetheless, Lavrov asked both countries to bring down the heat because it only worsens the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

The conflict was seemed to simmer a bit when the President of the U.S, Donald Trump, announced that he retreated from the conflict.
