Romanian, Ukrainian leaders meet in Bucharest
Romania has been a key transport route for Ukrainian grain. However, recent Russian airstrikes have targeted port facilities on the Danube River just across the border from Romania. Iohannis condemned the attacks, calling them "war crimes" that threaten the security of Ukrainian and Romanian citizens. Officials in Bucharest had earlier agreed to double their transit capacity, and currently 60 percent of Ukrainian grain exports pass through Romanian ports. Iohannis said he is working with Zelenskyy on shoring up air defenses to protect those shipments. Zelenskyy said they need to do everything possible to prevent Russia from transforming the Black Sea and Danube into a "dead zone" for navigation.
