Roger Federer: I Played against the Wind, Not Nadal

PARIS - A cliche reason for a loss. In the Roland Garros’ French Open tournament, Roger Federed had to surrender 3-6, 4-6, 2-6 to Rafael Nadal. With this result, the Spaniard then marched to the final stage to face either Dominic Thiem or Novak Djokovic.

The current champion for French Open is Rafael Nadal, and he is most likely to keep the title in his clutches.

Loss never feels good. Nonetheless, Roger Federer was quite fed up with how the he played the game. Or, most likely, he blamed other factors but himself. Acknowledging himself as once the top tennis player of the world, the Swiss blamed the fierce wind that causes the loss.

Admitting Nadal’s swiftness when playing on clay court, Federer thought he could have beaten Nadal, if only the wind had not been so fierce.

“I got to the point when I was glad I could make a shot,” recalled Nadal. Indeed, Federer threw bunch of excuses for a former champion. With joking tone, Federer said that he even would have to clear his eyes from dust to see what would be on his plate for dinner that night.

Then, he stated that he was trying his best to turn the table for his favor, but all in vain. “It was dangerous to play in such condition. With that kind of wind, they should have closed the roof, despite the fact that it was an outdoor tournament,” added Federer concerning the roof.

Federer also questioned ATP for holding the Women’s Singles fixtures in that kind of condition. The Swiss’ annoyance made sound sense, since his performance in the Roland Garros this year might also be his last.

Throughout his career, Federer only won French Open once in 2009, while Nadal is currently undisputed by winning 11 French Open titles (2005-2008, 2010-2014, 2017, 2018).

The ATP's tennis ranking currently tabulates Novak Djokovic as the current world's no. 1, while Nadal sits on no. 2, and Federer on 3rd.
